  • Put Your Career in Motion with a Mechanical Engineering Degree from Gannon University

Mechanical engineering is among the most versatile of engineering fields with career opportunities available across the nation. Gannon’s mechanical engineering program will prepare you to design, analyze, test, develop, research and manufacture an array of products while driving solutions that meet specified needs locally and globally. Our graduates have a nearly 100% career or graduate school placement rate. Leverage your own potential in our accelerated program to earn a BS in mechanical engineering and graduate mechanical engineering, engineering management, or business administration degree in only five years.

This program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org, under the General Criteria and the Mechanical and Similarly Named Programs Program Criteria.

    • Collaborate with real-world agencies and organizations on research, internships and project opportunities.
    • ABET:Engineering Accreditation ComissionEarn a degree that is nationally accredited.
    • Learn from faculty who have extensive experience in researching, consulting and teaching.

Learn to Lead the Way in Mechanical Engineering

    • Gain hands-on opportunities to research, design and develop new mechanical systems while implementing a creative yet analytical mindset.
    • Tailor your senior-year coursework to specialize in energy, fluid or thermal dynamics, or mechanics, structures and machine design.
    • Accelerate your education in one of our 4+1 programs including mechanical engineering, engineering management, and business administration.

    Experience an Exceptional Learning Environment

    • Develop essential leadership skills through student organizations including the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Society of Women Engineers.
    • Pursue faculty-mentored research opportunities that have frequently led to conference presentations or publication.
    • Learn in our state-of-the-art facilities that include the strength of materials, fluid mechanics, manufacturing, heat transfer and automatic control laboratories.

    Inspire Your Academic Success

Gain real-world knowledge through key mechanical engineering courses including:

Strength of Materials: Learn about different stresses in mechanical components and how to calculate safety factors for a component under a certain load.

Engineering Thermodynamics: Understand the fundamentals of energy-related topics including energy exchange and transfer and operations of energy systems.

Manufacturing Laboratory: Study selected aspects of the manufacturing process. Set up and operate machines, manufacture simple parts, measure process variables and more.

    Achieve Your Possibilities

Students will gain a high-quality education that enables success in the rigors of graduate school or a future profession. Through an array of program opportunities, you can:

    • Secure cooperative education and internship opportunities with companies including Eriez Magnetics, FMC Technologies, Wabtec Corp., Lord Corp., and Zurn Industries.
    • Discover career opportunities in research and/or the design and development of new mechanical systems.
    • Earn an average starting salary of $70,000 and mid-career salary of $100,000, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics
  2. An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors
  3. An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
  4. An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts
  5. An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives
  6. An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions
  7. An ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies
