Admission Requirements

  • Admission into the Undergraduate Physical Therapy Program

    There are two options for acceptance into the undergraduate physical therapy program as a freshman:

    4 + 3 Guaranteed Acceptance Option

    Students will earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science in four years and a Doctor of Physical Therapy after seven years. Students who want to be considered for this option must meet the following requirements:

    • Overall high school GPA of 3.0 or higher
    • SAT score of 1090 or higher or ACT score of 21 or higher
    • Completion of college preparatory/honor's biology and chemistry with labs and three years of college preparatory/honor's mathematics in high school
    • Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
    • Must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher in all pre-requisite courses; may repeat up to 4 credits of pre-requisite courses; grades of C- or below are not accepted

     3 + 3 Guaranteed Acceptance Option

    This program is designed for qualified students to earn an undergraduate degree in Health Science and a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in six years rather than seven. Students who want to be considered for this option must meet the following requirements:

    • SAT total of 1170 or higher or ACT score of 24 or higher
    • A high school GPA of 3.40 or higher
    • Completion of college preparatory/honor's biology and chemistry with labs and three years of college preparatory/honor's mathematics in high school
    • Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.40 or higher
    • Must maintain a GPA of 3.40 or higher in all pre-requisite courses without repeating any courses; grades of C- or below are not accepted
    • The cumulative GPA will be reviewed at the end of the freshman and sophomore years. Cumulative and pre- requisite GPA will be reviewed at the end of the junior year. GPA's are evaluated as reported by the Registrar's Office.

    Students who do not achieve the required GPAs at the time for matriculation into the graduate program will be transferred into the 4 +3 program, provided their GPAs meet the requirements for the 4 + 3 program.

    Transfer Students

    Students may transfer into the undergraduate program at any time.  The minimum requirements for admission into the undergraduate program are the following:

    • Overall high school GPA of 3.0 or higher or current undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher
    • SAT score of 1090 or higher or ACT score of 21 or higher
    • Completion of college preparatory/honor's biology and chemistry with labs and three years of college preparatory/honor's mathematics in high school

    After successful completion of a Bachelor's degree, students may apply to the graduate DPT program if they meet the following requirements:

    • Maintain a minimum overall 3.0 GPA
    • Satisfy the prerequisite course GPA requirements of 3.0 with no more than four credits of repeat course work, grades of C- or below are not accepted
    • Successful completion of an undergraduate degree from Gannon University
    • Transferred to Gannon University and completed a minimum of 30 credits in the undergraduate physical therapy program at Gannon University

    Although this is not a guaranteed option, preference is given for students who complete an undergraduate degree at Gannon University.  Seventy-five percent of the seats in Gannon's Doctor of Physical Therapy program are reserved for qualified Gannon undergraduate physical therapy students.
