Lisa A. Brown

My name is Lisa Ann Brown. I am born and raised in Erie. For as long as I can remember, I have had the desire to be a teacher. I believe it is an absolute privilege to be an assistant professor who works with our future educators. For the last 20 years I have had various teaching positions. This, I believe has served as an incredible asset because it has allowed me to have understanding of all of small cogs of responsibilities that keep the educational machine turning. As a result, I have been able to share what I have learned to those who feel the calling to educate.
Of all of the important components of education, literacy is what makes my heart beat a bit faster. It is the area of education that supports all other contents, but even more importantly, supports independent learning. I always say to my students that I am well-aware of a fraction of my specialty area and can easily impart that to them, but having the ability to research and find further information that satisfies their own curiosity is invaluable.
As a new member of the Gannon School of Education, I have found our programs to be rigorous and wonderfully engaging. Our students are truly being prepared for the “real world” and I feel proud to be a part of their process and support.
Outside of my educational life, I enjoy time spent with my family. My husband and I enjoy working in the garden and hiking with our pup, Hamilton. My son and daughter are both grown and married to the people that encourage them to be their very best. Each couple have provided us a grandchild which has made me an incredibly proud Mimi. I could not be more blessed.
