Gannon Scholarships and Awards

  • Gannon University offers a variety of scholarships, grants and awards in recognition of students’ academic and athletic accomplishments, demonstrated need and outstanding talents. These grants and scholarships are renewable each year based on criteria defined in our annual 'Important Information Regarding Financial Aid' (Final Award brochure) and related publications.     The following is a list of the various types of institutional aid at Gannon.

    Academic and Merit Scholarships/Awards

    Scholarship/Award Amount Eligibility
    Presidential Scholarship* Full Tuition Eligible candidates must apply and be accepted to the University by December 15. The top 10 percent of accepted students by this date will be invited to compete in a scholarship contest with the ability to earn a full tuition scholarship. Up to the top 8 participants in the scholarship contest will receive full tuition scholarships.
    Founders Scholarship* up to $24,000 All students who are invited and choose to participate in the above mentioned contest will have their Admissions Merit award increased by $1,000. Up to the top 8 participants in the scholarship contest will receive full tuition scholarships. Details of the scholarship contest are included with students’ acceptance letters.
    Academic Excellence Award* $22,000 - $23,000 Award amounts are based on academic merit as well as SAT/ACT scores. Students who perform exceptionally well may have the opportunity to increase their scholarship/award amount and receive either the Presidential or Founders Scholarships.
    Knight Achievement Award* $20,000- $21,000
    Award is based on academic merit as well as SAT/ACT scores.
    Maroon & Gold Award* $18,000 Award amounts are based on academic merit as well as SAT/ACT scores.

    Diocesan-Related Awards (Roman Catholic Diocese of Erie, Pennsylvania)

    Scholarship/Award Amount Eligibility
    Diocesan High School Grant  $3,000 Awarded to new students from the Catholic high schools in the Diocese of Erie, Pennsylvania.
    Diocesan Parish Grant $2,000 Awarded to new students who are active members of a Catholic parish in the Diocese of Erie, Pennsylvania.

    Education** $500-$3,000 Awards are based on students’ performance on exams.
    Engineering** $500-$3,000 Awards are based on students’ performance on exams.
    Health Professions and Science**      $500-$3,000 Awards are based on students’ performance on exams.
    Social Science** $500-$3,000 Awards are based on students’ performance on exams.

    ** Scholarship competitions to be held virtually and dates will be shared as they are identified. Please contact the Office of Admissions for more information. 

    Additional Scholarships

    Scholarship/Award Amount Eligibility
    Diversity Award* up to $2,000 Students from underrepresented, domestic student populations within the 50 US States and Washington, D.C. will be awarded $2,000 in additional scholarship dollars from the Office of Financial Aid.
    Athletic Scholarship varies Based on demonstrated athletic ability; awarded by the respective athletic coaches.
    Cyber Award $3,000 Requires direct entry into the program and awarded to admitted student to the cybersecurity and cyber engineering academic programs.
    Catholic High School Grant* $2,000 Awarded to graduates from any Catholic high school in the U.S. (outside the Diocese of Erie, Pennsylvania.)
    Model U.N. Scholarship* $1,000  Based on academic merit and participation in Model U.N.
    National Catholic Forensic League* varies Awards are based on high school participation in forensic tournaments.
    Raise.Me varies  

    We partnered with raise.me to allow 9th-11th graders to start earning micro-scholarships for their high school achievements such as getting an A or taking on a leadership role. Rather than wait until the end of high school, you can earn scholarships even before applying to help you better plan for college, and we'll award your micro-scholarships in your financial aid package if you are accepted. You may receive a larger financial package based on your complete application for admission. Portfolios must be completed by December 1st of a student's senior year.     ROTC Room and and Board Scholarship varies Awarded to winners of the three- and four-year designated Army ROTC Scholarships (FAFSA) required.
    Schuster Memorial Music Award (requires a separate application) $1,000

     

    The Schuster Memorial Music Award was endowed by William Schuster to encourage musicians to continue their creation of music at the college level. This scholarship rewards up to 15 qualified students for their musical ability with $1,000 awarded annually, with a total value of $4,000 available over four years at Gannon.

    A prospective freshman, transfer, or adult student must:

    • Apply and be accepted for full-time admission to the University.
    • Sing or play a musical instrument (flute, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, baritone horn/euphonium, tuba, or percussion).
    • Return the completed Memorial Music Award application by Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024.
    • Arrange an audition with the Director of the Gannon University Concert Band or Mixed Chorus (contact information on application).
    • Participate in the Gannon University Concert Band or Mixed Chorus during the academic year.

    Schuster Patron of the Arts Scholarship (requires a separate application) $2,500

     

    The Schuster family and Gannon University are proud to offer ten scholarships to qualified students who make written, performance or visual arts an integral part of their lives. William Schuster created an endowment for these scholarships in loving memory of his wife Frances, who was deeply committed to the arts. Students who are awarded these scholarships receive $2,500 annually, with a total value of $10,000 available over four years at Gannon.

    NSF Scholarship Grant (SEECS) up to $8,000/year Through funds from the National Science Foundation, Gannon University awards approximately 20 scholarships per year, each renewable for up to four years. Each recipient can be awarded up to $8,000/year, depending on awardee's unmet financial needs and available funds. Learn more about the award

    Transfer Student Awards

    Scholarship/Award Amount Eligibility
    Gannon Transfer Scholarship $20,000 Award is based on calculated GPA from prior school(s).
    Gannon Transfer Award $18,000 Award is based on calculated GPA from prior school(s).
    University Transfer Award $14,000 Award is based on calculated GPA from prior school(s).
    Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship up to $21,000 Available to incoming transfer students who are members of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society at their community college, a U.S. citizen and have at least a 3.0 college GPA. This award would be in place of other transfer scholarships and awards.


    After Graduation from GU

    Delaney Medical School Scholarship Fund varies

    Dr. James H. Delaney was a prominent Erie ophthalmologist who bequeathed $2 million to help make medical school a reality for Gannon University graduates from Erie County Pennsylvania.

    The Delaney Medical Scholarship Fund, through Gannon, has awarded over $3 million. Individual scholarships ranged from $8,000 to $38,000.

    To be eligible for scholarships from this fund, students must meet the following requirements:

     

    • Must be a graduate of an Erie County Pennsylvania high school
    • Must attend and graduate from Gannon University
    • If a transfer student, must complete a minimum of 64 credits from Gannon and earn his/her first baccalaureate degree from Gannon
    • Must demonstrate economic need*
    • Must be accepted to and enroll in an allopathic medical school in the continental United States
    *While this is a need-based award, anyone who meets the minimum requirements will receive $8,000 per year.
