Counseling Services: Erie Campus

  • If you'd like to initiate counseling, please email us at counseling@gannon.edu and Counseling Center staff member will respond to schedule a phone triage appointment with you. A phone triage appointment typically lasts 10-15 minutes and we will discuss your concerns/needs as well as our services to come up with a plan for ongoing counseling.

If you (or another Gannon student) are currently experiencing a mental health crisis and do not feel safe (i.e. you/they are experiencing current thoughts or behaviors related to suicide), you can walk in to the Counseling Center any time Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm and let the front desk know that you need a Crisis Consultation.

For any after hours crises, please contact:

    • 911 (or go to the ER) or
    • Erie Crisis Services at (814) 456-2014 or

    Services

Students have two options for ongoing counseling, both of which are confidential and free:

Option 1: On-Campus Counseling in the Counseling Center [lower level of Harborview Apts.]

    • in-person sessions
    • offered Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm
    • meeting every 2-3 weeks

Option 2: Scheduled Counseling via the TimelyCare app or website

    • video or audio sessions
    • offered days, nights, weekends (24/7) from anywhere in the US
    • meeting weekly or whatever your preference is

To initiate on-campus counseling, please email us at counseling@gannon.edu and a Counseling Center staff member will respond to schedule a phone triage appointment with you. A phone triage appointment typically lasts 10-15 minutes. In this call, we will discuss your concerns/needs as well as our services to come up with a plan for ongoing counseling. Students who require extended or specialized counseling may be referred to an off-campus mental health provider. In the event of a referral, therapists in the Counseling Center will provide interim case management and support in connecting with the referral.

To initiate Scheduled Counseling via the TimelyCare app or website, download the TimelyCare app (or go to the website www.timelycare.com/gannon) and create an account using your Gannon login info. Once you have an account, you have access to a number of services. You can use the Scheduled Counseling option to choose a therapist and schedule with them on an ongoing basis. TimelyCare therapists all specialize in college mental health. You can read through their bios to choose a good match based on whatever characteristics are important to you, such as: language spoken, ethnicity, clinical specialization, gender, etc. If you don’t find what you are looking for, scroll to the bottom of that page and click to talk with a Care Navigator, who will help you connect with a therapist who meets your needs.

TimelyCare also offers an option for on-demand counseling called TalkNow. You can use this option to speak with a therapist 24/7. You will be connected with the first available therapist within a few minutes of calling and can utilize this service if you are experiencing a mental health crisis or if you just want to talk with someone about everyday concerns.

In the event of a referral, therapists in the Counseling Center will provide interim case management and support in connecting with the referral.

    Group Counseling

Students experiencing common concerns (i.e. anxiety, grief, self-esteem, relationship problems) may benefit from group counseling. Groups are formed based on counselor assessment and student interest. Please contact the Counseling Center for additional information about group counseling offered on-campus.

    Couples Counseling

Students who are both currently enrolled at Gannon University can meet with a counselor for short-term couples counseling. Both students must be interested in couples counseling and both must complete separate initial consultations prior to starting couples counseling.

    Somebody I Know Needs Support

Therapists are available for consultation if you are concerned about a peer. The counselor will discuss your concerns and work with you to develop possible options for you to implement while reaching out to your loved one. You can also complete a Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) form regarding your concerns about a student currently enrolled at Gannon University, which will be reviewed and addressed by the on-campus BIT Team.

    Psychiatric Services

The Counseling Center has a consulting psychiatrist for limited hours per week during the academic year. Students must complete an initial consultation with a therapist to determine eligibility for psychiatric services. In addition, TimelyCare also offers virtual psychiatry services. Students can email counseling@gannon.edu for more information on how to access this service.
