Technology on Campus

  • WI-Fi

Wi-Fi networking is available in all Gannon buildings. The Wi-Fi in all Gannon residence halls was recently upgraded to support the latest wireless technology with speeds up to 300Mbps. This network also accommodates a variety of other wireless devices including gaming consoles, media players, tablets, smart TVs and smartphones.

    Personal Computer Requirements

Gannon students are encouraged but not required to have personal computers on campus. Gannon students may purchase desktops and laptops through any vendor provided they meet minimum standards.

    Personal Software Purchases

Software packages from Microsoft, Adobe, and others are available to students at a discount from JourneyEd. All Gannon students are required to have a working, up-to-date anti-virus software on their personal computer in order to authenticate to the Gannon Wi-Fi.  A free anti-virus software can be provided by contacting the Help Desk at 814-871-7501.

    Move-in Day

Tech teams are in each of the freshman residence halls on move-in day to assist with connecting your computer to the network or other technology issues you may encounter.

    Student Email

More than just email, Microsoft Office 365 for Education provides Gannon students with a number of productivity and collaboration tools, including 50 GB mailbox for email, 1 TB of online file storage, group calendaring, shared online documents, Office Web Apps, and much more. And because Office 365 is browser-based, students can access all of these services from virtually any computer or mobile device with an Internet connection.

    Computer Access and Resources

ITS provides more than 200 student access computers in eight labs through all of our academic buildings. Extended hours are provided in several locations for late night study. Computers provide access to University resources as well as specialty software. Students have access to high capacity laser printers with a quota of 600 pages per semester.

    Departmental Computer Labs

Some departments have specialized computer labs devoted to specific courses or majors. Some of these labs are:

    • ME/EE/CIS
    • Chemistry
    • Biology
    • Communications

    Classroom Technology

Gannon has 130 teaching classrooms and labs equipped with instructional technology that includes an instructor station with projection for computer, DVD, and cable TV display.

    Learning Management System

Gannon's Learning Management System (LMS) enables each course offered at Gannon an area for online communication, collaboration and sharing of course content. Faculty are able to use our LMS as an extension of the classroom - by sharing lectures, media and other course content with students.

    Academic and Financial Information

Gannon provides online access to academic and financial information, which includes the ability to:

    • view your schedule, grades, and transcript
    • use Academic Evaluation to see what courses you need to complete your program
    • view and/or pay your tuition bill
    • find out what classes are offered, check their prerequisites and register online
    • give your parent/guardian online access to your records

    GU TV

Residence halls and campus apartments are equipped to deliver local Over the Air (OTA) broadcast channels only.

    Help Desk

The Gannon ITS Help Desk provides walk-in, phone, and online assistance for students with questions or issues regarding technology. Hours are flexible with technicians available during regular business hours and phone support available on evenings and weekends to meet students' needs.

    Technology Support Center

The Technology Support Center (TSC) located in Nash Library offers the same services as the Help Desk in Palumbo and a lot more.  In addition to providing assistance with connecting to the Gannon network, technicians can assist with more in-depth Microsoft Office questions; scanning and manipulating graphics with Adobe Creative Suite and how to use Office 365 for document management.  The TSC offers more convenient evening and weekend hours for hands-on computer support.
