This November, Gannon nursing students marked an important step on their journey to become transformational health care leaders and providers.

The White Coat Ceremony is an iconic ritual that emphasizes compassionate, collaborative, scientifically excellent care from the very first day of training in the healthcare professions. The Gold Foundation established this tradition in 1993 at Columbia University as a way to highlight the importance of humanism in all care of patients.

Gannon University’s nursing program prepares students to enter professional nursing practice with care, confidence and competence. The Villa Maria School of Nursing’s rigorous and engaging curriculum and intentional philosophy create an environment to support individual student needs and goals. The critical role of registered nurses in our health care system is ever-increasing, and so is the demand for highly skilled professionals.

"For me, getting my white coat has shown me how far I have come in the nursing program at Gannon University," said sophomore nursing major Kenzie Burlingham. "It has been hard and stressful, but getting the white coat shows my hard work for my major and that start of clinical experience."
