See below for updates to hours and operations for April 8.
Here are a few things to know for the eclipse on Monday, April 8.
Most Erie Campus buildings will be locked today
All academic buildings will be accessible only with your student I.D. The exceptions will be Nash Library and the Waldron Campus Center.
Webinar offered by Vatican for Gannon students
Brother Guy Consolmagno, SJ, has invited anyone interested to participate in a Vatican Observatory webinar on Monday at noon. It is primarily for Jesuit colleges and universities, but our students/faculty/staff are welcome to join if interested. Those interested would need to register. Here is the link: The Great American Eclipse: A Jesuit Conversation - Vatican Observatory
Student Success Center
The Student Success Center will be closed on Monday, April 8.
However, all services will be available to students via Teams. Students can email specific offices if they have question/concerns/need at the following address:
Academic Advising- advisinghelp@gannon.edu
Office of Accessibility Services – OAS@gannon.edu
Career Exploration & Development – career@gannon.edu
Student Support Services/TRIO -SSS@gannon.edu
Health and Counseling Center hours adjusted Monday
The Health Center side of the house will be open 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., closed from 12 to 3:30 p.m., and then open again from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. The Counseling Center side of the house will be open as usual on April 8, but will be closed from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. for the eclipse.
Gannon coffee shops closed Monday
The coffee shops in Nash and Palumbo will be closed, similar to Advising Day, because there will be next to no foot traffic in those buildings. Other than opening the café at 10:30 a.m., everything else will be operating as normal for Doc’s and Chick-fil-A.
Closures across campus
The mailroom and press will be closed for the day.
The Gannon Bookstore will be closed for the day.
Reminder … classes are either remote or canceled in Erie
- Given the projections for the number of visitors to Erie on April 8 along with a high likelihood for extreme traffic congestion, Gannon University will offer remote instruction for all courses this day except for those canceled from 1:20 to 4:20 p.m.
- The shift to remote instruction will apply to all courses held on the morning of April 8 through 1:20 p.m. as well as all evening courses beginning at 4:30 p.m. and later. Classes previously canceled from 1:20 to 4:20 p.m. that day will remain canceled for their entirety so students, faculty and staff can witness the event.
- In addition, the university will shift employee work schedules for that day to decrease the number of those who are needed on campus. Remote work is encouraged. For those employees who are required to be on campus or who choose to work from campus or volunteer for Eclipse events hosted by Gannon University, we encourage you to plan ahead regarding your travel time to campus in the morning. You should also expect delays in your ability to depart from downtown after the eclipse.
- Gannon has planned events for that day beginning at 1:30 p.m. – at McConnell Family Stadium, Friendship Green and at the Erie Experience Children’s Museum. If you are on campus, we encourage you to join us at one of these locations.
- You can learn more about the detailed timeline of the eclipse and safety information on how to view the eclipse on our website: gannon.edu/eclipse2024.
