    Music of Latin America: Study the rich cultural and musical heritages of Latin America, including the European, African and Amerindian contributions to Latin American culture and music.

    France and the Francophone World: Explore contemporary cultural, political and social climate in France and the Francophone world with topics including media, the role of women, and religious, ethnic and racial diversity.

    Women in Middle East History: Understand Middle Eastern history through the prism of women’s experiences; explore women’s contributions to building a vast and varied civilization; study historical roots of contested issues related to Middle Eastern women.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Global Cultures majors will demonstrate Intermediate Mid to High level of proficiency in at least one target language (as defined by ACTFL, the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages Proficiency Guidelines).
  2. Students will identify the cultural context in which literary and non-literary texts (films, pop-culture, folk, and other art etc.) were produced.
  3. Students will critically evaluate literary and non-literary products of the target culture.
  4. Students will apply sound research methodology and compose information with accuracy and clarity.
  5. Students will synthesize their traditional classroom work with a meaningful experiential learning experience.
