Gannon University’s Ninth Annual Regional Symposium
Next steps in Program Assessment, Incorporating
Blackboard and Automated Outcomes reporting
Goal: This
symposium will target best practices in Program Outcomes Assessment and how
they can be incorporated into Gannon University’s goal of Automated Assessment
by providing current practical strategies for review, planning, effectiveness,
and implementing automated data collection and rubric scoring. Attendees will
participate in activities that involve exploring their program’s assessment
plan; systematically identifying goals, rubrics, assignments, and expected
outcomes to meet the University’s next steps implementing and collecting data;
and interacting with a panel presentation of Gannon University’s pilot team
using Blackboard Outcomes as an assessment gathering tool.
Who
should attend: Whether
one is just starting to explore or well down the path of institutional
assessment, the ideas, approaches, and practices to be shared at the conference
by attendees and presenters will be beneficial to all. Faculty, program chairs,
program directors, academic administrations, and university instructional
designers who assist faculty with course development and aligning assignments
for assessment will be able to participate and learn something of value that
can be incorporated immediately into enhancing program and institutional
assessment to meet the University’s next steps in Outcomes Assessment.
Time: 8:30 AM to 3:00PM
Date: Wednesday, May 20, 2015
Location: Yehl - in the Waldron Center
Cost: This symposium is subsidized by
CETL
Dr. Ruth Newberry, Senior
Consulting Specialist with Blackboard
Symposium Format:
- The symposium will include information sharing
from Dr. Ruth Newberry, Senior
Consulting Specialist with Blackboard and Gannon’s project support to launch
automate assessment using Blackboard Outcomes Assessment.
- Dr. Newberry will be presenting current best
practices and facilitating an interactive discussion with participants.
- A panel
presentation from Gannon University’s pilot project team will include
strategies, challenges, and successes the team experienced rolling out
Blackboard Outcomes Assessment as the collection tool.
- All
participants will participate in collaborative sharing while working
through a planning and tracking process that will serve as a take away from the
session to be used in their own program.
Dr. Newberry suggests, “It doesn’t matter the
LMS or system used, in today’s learning environment effective program
assessment is about 80% assessment planning and 20% technology, a 20% that can
seem daunting but can be overcome through effective planning strategies.”
Refreshments: A continental breakfast and
lunch will be served with coffee and drinks throughout the day.
