Communication Arts & Theatre

Lisa M. Smith '97

Lisa Smith has spent her post-graduation years building a career in the film industry. With her communication arts and theatre degree, she left for Los Angeles and has been working as a film producer before recently returning to her hometown of Pittsburgh.

Upon arriving on the West Coast, Lisa found a job as the assistant to Jane Lipstiz, the head of Western production for VH1. Since then, she has had the opportunity to work for First Tuesday Media, a company that produced political commercials for President Barack Obama, and occupy the position of co-executive producer of a film entitled The People Speak, starring Matt Damon, Bob Dylan, Josh Brolin, and Marisa Tomei, among others.

Currently, she is a freelance documentary film producer and working in the clearances department for the Lions Gate film, Abduction. Lisa advises students to “not focus too much on what job you are going to get after graduation” and to simply “grab each day and live it to the fullest.”
