Dr. Seeniann John '97

Dr. Seeniann John received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Gannon in 1997. During her time at Gannon, Dr. John was a high honors student and participated in Phi Eta Sigma.

Dr. John serves her community in many ways. She is a gastroenterologist, the mother of a child on the autism spectrum with learning disabilities and is employed at the Salem Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Salem, VA. After earning a bachelor’s degree at Gannon University, Dr. John went on to earn her medical degree at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, subsequently completing residencies in internal medicine and preventive medicine at Stony Brook University Hospital in New York.

Dr. John received a Master’s degree in public health at Columbia University and then completed her gastroenterology fellowship at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA. After receiving her medical education and training, Dr. John worked at Geisinger Health System for three additional years.

She then moved with her family to Virginia and began working at the VA Medical Center in Salem. Currently, Dr. John teaches medical students and works part-time at Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Throughout the years, Dr. John has served her profession well while working in a male-dominated specialty. She continues to serve as a role model for female students and medical professionals.

Dr. John currently resides in Forest, Virginia with her husband (2010 Distinguished Alumnus) Carl Hoegerl, DO ’97 who she met during her time at Gannon. The couple has two children, John and Julia. Dr. John is an active member of Saint Thomas More Catholic Church. During her free time, she enjoys making wreaths and spending time with her family.
